Tell us a little something about your first girlfriend/boyfriend.
I wish this would be a happy post, or just a cute delight, but there's no nice way to talk about this.
Boyfriend
I was nine and he was WAYYYY older than me. I didn't dare tell my mom about him because she was pretty strict. I only saw him every other week. It's pretty disturbing in restrospect. He was extremely polite, a gentleman, always told me that he couldn't wait until I was old enough to marry him and never really did anything that could be considered sexual. It was totally platonic, but still, he should've been dating someone MUCH older. Young men really should stay the hell away from kids. No one really told me that as a kid, even though my parents were really good about the whole "don't talk to strangers"/"dangers of premarital sex" communications. I guess most people don't think of the gray areas like dating a friend. When I adopt, I will be sure to help my children feel like they can talk to me if they encounter a weird situation like that one, rather than hiding it out of fear I'll get mad at them.
Girlfriend
I was ten and she was also a kid, but that situation was even more disturbing than my first boyfriend. I'm still untangling that mess she made of my head. She is the reason I've become a strong advocate for the protection of children against sexual predators -- regardless of age.
The moral of the story: For heaven's sake talk to your children about romantic relationships, dating and get to know their friends -- don't wait until they are teens.
What did you do this weekend?
In the interest of avoiding redundancy, check out this link from my other blog in LJ.
What's the strongest association you have between a scent and a memory?
Gardenias... that scent always makes me think of the most beautiful experience in my life and this poem:
Omnimagnificence
Always magnificent you are.
Shining more than the sun, you are.
The vessels of life's nectar
sagging and suckled sweetly
help me appreciate
your maternal instinct and
how beautiful you truly are.
The penetration of your light
into the darkest void
imparts the seeds of life
to all creation, myself included.
Halos surround your fiery (or, is it) onyx hair.
As I behold it, I can't help but cry.
Your eyes are four jewels
gold and silver, sapphire and emerald.
Man and Woman all in one,
Showing me your utmost passion.
I am unworthy of your love.
But still you give it all freely.
I accept it reluctantly but in thanks.
G-d of Earth and Sky,
I am but nothing but a servant
so humbled by the pleasure you give me.
Why would you put one such as me,
at the center of your Universe?
What are your three favorite album covers of all-time? Any honorable mentions?

Moorhead State University 1996... in person.
1- When I was a model, a stalker followed me all the way to Hawaii. He figured out my exact plane flight, the day I was traveling, my hotel... that was scary.
2- Although the rest of this particular trip to Puerto Rico was pretty wonderful, my encounter with security was putrid. I was facing a life-threatening illness. It was to the point I needed a wheel chair and was incredibly nauseated from my medication. My grandfather was dying back in Puerto Rico, so I couldn't stay home or in a hospital, out of fear that I might never see him again. In my condition, the TSA Security decided to target both my husband and I. They patted me down on my wheelchair, and forced me to stand. Needless to say, I was throwing up through the whole humiliating experience. Looking back at it, I take some small measure of perverse satisfaction in puking all through this adventure and making the TSA agents feel very nervous and apologetic.
3 - The Blair Witch Project is the only time I felt it.
Growing up: Ms. Pac Man
Now: Ms. Pac Man
So there!
The Bible. It has enriched my life, destroyed my life, brought meaning to it and ultimately made great fodder for my fictional and cartoon work. (link not child or worksafe, may offend people.)
